Surrealism (English)

Surrealism an art form that started on approximately sometime on 1920. It was a cultural movement which developed in Europe after World War 1. It is best known for its visual artworks that portray of fantastic or distant realities that activates the unconscious mind through imagery.

For our latest task in our art class we were assigned to create an artwork that involves surrealism as the theme. Since I have an idea on how to make an artwork based on surrealism because of the various media that I see on the internet and my recent approach to improving my art, the task didn't become difficult as how it should be for me.

The Process

I first do a rough sketch as a basis for the different characters and elements within my artwork. After that I began to darken the outline for the different characters to emphasize their shapes and figures. Due to my lack of coloring materials (such as paintbrush and other materials for painting) I had to improvise by using oil pastel and spreading it by using color pencil of the same color. I colored all the parts thoroughly then darkened the outline. Here is the result.

The Result

I call this piece "Tromperie" or in French deceit/deception. It depicts a man brainwashing or deceiving another man through the use of words that is symbolized by the snake. The man being deceived has turned into a bird that has become a prey for the deceitful lies of the other man. The black and white spiral is a symbol of brainwashing. Also as you can see that the man who is deceiving the other man is bleeding his eyes out, this symbolizes the guilt he is feeling through his consciousness through his actions that have backfired at him due to his works

Thank you for reading this post. I hope you appreciated my efforts on making this post and this artwork.

Til next time bye~
